Take the Pledge
Here in Montana, women are earning only 67 percent of what men earn, putting Montana at 39th place for pay equity in the nation. I’d match the Montana work ethic up against any other state in the nation, and 39th place for pay equity is unacceptable. Since I believe that ALL of Montana’s workers deserve a fair day’s wage for a fair day’s work, I established the Equal Pay for Equal Work Task Force to meet this challenge head on.
Since being elected as the 24th Governor of Montana, my administration has made Montana working families our top priority. When Montana working families prosper, our state prospers. We know that it’s not enough to bring new business and jobs to our beautiful state; we need to make sure those jobs are high-paying, quality jobs. Jobs that you can raise a family on—jobs that you know your kids will stay in Montana for to raise their own families. We have Montana’s economy running strong but we need to keep our focus on ensuring everyone is treated equally so we all can prosper together.
This initiative is incredibly important to me, which is why I’ve asked two members of my cabinet who understand this issue better than anyone-Montana Department of Labor & Industry Commissioner Pam Bucy and Department of Administration Director Sheila Hogan - to lead this effort. I know that under the leadership of these two amazing women, we will be successful in ensuring that all Montana workers earn a fair wage, no matter if they are a man or woman.
